REGIONS AND CITIES

Belfast
Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland is beautifully located on the coast below the Cave Hill and the Black Mountain. Here, great ships of the past, such as the Titanic, were built and launched - and the world-famous Irish Linen is still widely available.

As you'd expect, Belfast offers the visitor just about every delight you could hope for and the best way to explore is on foot. Sample the fine cuisine and immerse yourself in the sparkling nightlife - friendly pubs, museums, restaurants, theatres and concert halls, such as the Waterfront hall, one of Europe's premier concert and conference halls situated on the booming Lagan waterfront.

The Cathedral Quarter of Belfast, is home to St Anne's Cathedral, which has an impressive display of stain glass windows. So brimming with cultural vibrancy is Belfast. For further information on the rich array of things to do contact one of our Ireland specialists.

Dublin
Dublin, the capital city of the Republic of Ireland, is a cosmopolitan, bustling city, which literally buzzes with energy and excitement. However, the great thing about Dublin is that if you fancy something quieter, half an hours drive outside the city centre will take you to mountain walks, stately homes and gardens and fishing villages.

The city is a great centre for culture and you'll be spoilt for choice with all the fine museums, art galleries and theatres. Dublin is also home to a great literary tradition, its native sons include Shaw, Yeats, Wilde, Joyce and Beckett. You can't talk about Dublin without mentioning the architecture; walking around the city you'll see everything from mediaeval and Georgian architecture to more modern buildings.

Dublin is a shoppers delight, you can buy anything from the latest fashion to arts and crafts. If you are looking for a gastronomic experience, Dublin boasts a vast array of restaurants serving haute cuisine to traditional pub grub menus.

East Coast & Midlands
The Midlands is a truly beautiful region of Ireland that offers everything from sports and historical monuments to walking trips through the stunning countryside. The natural beauty of the Midlands will truly astonish you and a stroll beside one of the many lakes or rivers is a breathtaking experience.

If you are a golfer, some of Ireland's finest golf courses are found in The Midlands, including the world-famous K Club. The Horse Museum and National Stud is also here, and is home to some of the world's finest thoroughbreds.

One of Ireland's oldest Christian settlements, Clonmacnoise, is also found in The Midlands, on the banks of the Shannon. Founded in the sixth century, it includes the remains of eight churches and three high crosses.

Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland's beauty is intertwined with a colourful history, rich culture and the renowned friendliness of its people.

From the wild and rugged beauty of the Sperrin Mountains and the majesty of the Giants Causeway to the magnificent Fermanagh Lakes, one of the most unspoilt landscapes in Europe, the six counties, Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone are just waiting to be discovered and offer a wide range of activities, from horse riding and golf to fishing the unspoilt waters in beautiful places. Golfers can get into the swing on the windswept dunes of world championship courses at Royal County Down and Royal Portrush, and enjoy the unparalleled challenge of lesser known links courses at Portstewart and Castlerock.

Indeed for such a small place, Northern Ireland is bursting with things to see and do.

North West
The North West's landscape has been remarkably unaffected by the passage of time and is a striking mixture of coastal beauty, ramblings hills, mountains and lovely lakes, all which provide an extremely interesting location for any visitor.

If you are interested in poetry, the North West is a must, as it contains Sligo - the birthplace of one of Ireland's greatest poets, W.B. Yeats. You can visit the Yeats building and also visit his grave at Drumcliff churchyard.

There is a fabulous choice of top class accommodation and restaurants in the North West, with evening entertainment freely available in a range of high quality venues. The are boasts splendid facilities for golfing, angling, equestrian, hiking, biking, cruising and watersports to name but a few.

South East
The South East of Ireland is said to be the sunniest spot on the island! The word that springs to mind when thinking about the South East of Ireland is 'lush'. The forests, farmland, hills and rivers provide the perfect place to relax.
The South East is home to Waterford of Waterford Crystal fame, the lively and surprising town of Kilkenny, with its mediaeval castle and monastery and Dungarvan with its glacial mountains overlooking the sea.

The area provides top class facilities for golfing, fishing and horse riding.

South West
The County of Cork shares with Kerry the south-western corner of Ireland.  Washed by the warm Gulf Stream and tje mild moist southerly winds, palm trees and bamboo flourish.

The region is steeped in ancient history and folklore.  There are over 100 heritage and cultural sites of significance covering many diverse aspects of Ireland's past. 

Cork is the largest of all the Irish counties and Cork City, the European Capital of Culture 2005 is alive with the cultural richness of a truly modern city - annually featuring the world-renowned film and jazz festivals. 

 No matter from which direction the county of Kerry is approached, the great mountains of Macgillycuddy's  Reeks draws the eyes of the traveler, including Ireland's highest mountain Carrauntoohil at 1, 039 m.

Whether on foot or by car, this county is well worth a visit.

The West
The West, dominated by water, is a particularly beautiful part of Ireland.

The West of Ireland is warm, wild and wonderful.  A land of history and heritage, of character and charm with landscapes to capture your heart.  The Atlantic Ocean provides a magnificent backdrop to the region that embraces both the Aran Islands  and the stunning landscapes of Connemara.

Galway is regarded as Ireland's most vibrant city and in recent years has been Europe's fastest growing city.

To the east of Galway is a region rich in heritage, culture and beautiful landscape, which inspired literary figures including W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory.

Shannon
Where the Atlantic Ocean, the River Shannon and enjoyment flow. The Shannon Region is a place of great beauty embracing counties Clare, North Kerry, Limerick, South Offaly and North Tipperary. Limerick City is the historic capital of the Region.

It takes its name from the majestic River Shannon. The region is bordered by the dramatic Atlantic coastline, where you can enjoy cliffs, golden beaches and quiet coves along Europe's most westerly shores.

The landscape also includes the rugged, lunar-like plateau of the Burren in North Clare and idyllic waters of Shannon's Lough Derg - Ireland's pleasure lake.

The Shannon Region also has excellent visitor attractions, and offers great activity options from world-class golf and fishing to horse riding, walking, cycling and water sports.
